MENAGGIO

Menaggio

One of Lake Como’s favourite recreational resorts over the Summer months, the quaint town of Menaggio is situated on the western shores of the middle lake. Highly desirable and in demand with foreign tourists, it forms part of what is known as the ‘golden triangle’ – the three ‘tips’ being the beautiful towns of Menaggio, Varenna and Bellagio. A fantastic ferry service from the town’s quaint harbour links the three taking between 15 and 30 minutes.

The town is divided into three parishes: Croce, Laveno and Nobiolle. At the heart of the town centre, with its quaint boutiques and artisanal shops, lies Piazza Garibaldi – the perfect place to people watch, enjoy an espresso and breath in the incredible views of the central lake.

The lengthy Lake Promenade begins here. Winding its way along the edge of the lake, it is lined with colourful flower beds, and Alpine-style painted houses in muted tones. Combined with dramatic mountain views this makes for a stunning early morning walk.

Even in the Summer months, Menaggio manages to maintain its sense of serenity: a peaceful pace of life and a relaxing atmosphere pervade although there is still plenty to do in this well-equipped town.

Sightseers might explore its churches, medieval ruins, or the glorious gardens, architecture and lake views of its villas most notably Villa Mylius Vigoni – situated in the hamlet of Loveno, it currently houses the German – Italian Centre of European Excellence and is not to be missed!

The upper part of town has a more medieval feel to it with narrow alleys, steep steps and characterful stone buildings more typical of other Lake Como towns and villages. Surrounded by incredible natural beauty, Menaggio is known for its amazing outdoor activities – from watersports to mountain walks and hiking
